Family Support

Families are integral to our success-and there are resources to support them!

At Family Service, we strive to help military service men and women build a life beyond the military. We offer free programs for our veterans, active-duty military, and their families, including:

  • one-on-one financial counseling
  • workforce development
  • in-home parenting classes
  • family strengthening group sessions
  • counseling services

Our programs provide a safe and confidential place for Military and Veteran Couples to reconnect, find peer support and positive encouragement.  Participants learn specific real-life skills that enable them to better manage marriage under stress.  These unique challenges can be caused by military service, multiple deployments, combat or wounds – be they physical, mental, emotional or moral.  The skills learned can be used immediately to overcome damaging behaviors, reduce stress and develop stronger bonds and healthier relationships.  Classes are free because we believe those defending our country want to build and manage healthy relationships.

The National Military Family Association (NMFA) is the leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to serving all military families. Since 1969, NMFA has worked with families to identify and solve the unique challenges of military life.  We stand up programs, like Operation Purple® to help families and children connect, learn resiliency, and find community. Our Military Spouse Scholarship Program helps create financially stable families by awarding spouses with funding to complete their education, find meaningful careers, and even expand entrepreneurial endeavors that contribute to their family’s income.

Our Military Kids® is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering extracurricular activity grants to children and teens of deployed National Guard, deployed Reserve, or post-9/11 combat wounded, ill, or injured Veterans in treatment. OMK activity grants build children's self-confidence, enhance family wellness, and strengthen a shared sense of community.

United Way’s Child Care Scholarship provides a pathway to stability and success for parents working toward a better future. Designed specifically for parents pursuing an undergraduate degree or participating in long-term job training and workforce development programs, this support makes it easier to balance the demands of school, work and parenting. Along with financial assistance for child care, the program connects families to essential resources and services that help them thrive in the classroom, in their careers and at home.

There are many resources out there that specifically support service members and veterans, but may not serve spouses and family members, or if those resources are available to spouses, it’s not always explicitly stated. To address this, this page provides information and links to resources that offer support for veteran spouses, committed partners, and family members. This curated list of resources includes organizations that provide supports for veteran spouses nationally.

The mission of Vets For Youth is for children to forge long-lasting relationships through Empowerment, mentorship, and learning about healthy and sustainable living.
